A welcoming space for men to come together, share skills, work on DIY projects, and enjoy some good company. It’s about camaraderie, community, and positive mental health.
Welcome to the Men’s Shed
This is where skills are shared, stories are told, and laughs echo over cups of tea. The Knocknaheeny/Hollyhill Men’s Shed isn’t just a workshop – it’s a space where friendships are built, confidence grows, and men support each other in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
A Place to Connect, Create, and Belong
The NICHE Men’s Shed is a welcoming, community-based space where men come together to share skills, take part in meaningful activities, and support one another’s wellbeing. Rooted in the national Men’s Shed movement, our Shed offers a relaxed, non-judgemental environment where conversation flows naturally and participation is always voluntary.
There is no pressure, no formal structure, and no expectations – just a place to spend time, stay active, and feel part of something positive.
What Happens in Our Men’s Shed
Men’s Sheds are about doing things together, at your own pace. Activities are shaped by the interests and skills of the men who attend and may include:
-
Woodwork
Practical, hands-on projects ranging from simple repairs to creative builds. Woodworking encourages focus, skill-sharing, and a sense of achievement – whether you are experienced or just curious to try.
-
Metalwork & Stonework
Opportunities to work with metal and stone, learn new techniques, or contribute to small community projects. These activities promote problem-solving, teamwork, and practical learning.
-
Gardening
Gardening activities support physical movement, connection with nature, and community pride. From planting and maintenance to seasonal projects, gardening offers both purpose and calm.
-
Arts and Crafts
Creative activities such as painting, carving, model-making, and other crafts. These sessions support self-expression, creativity, and relaxed conversation.
-
Social and Recreational Activities
Not everything has to be work-focused. Many men come simply to have a cup of tea, play cards, chat, or take part in informal group activities. Social connection is at the heart of the Shed.
-
Community Events
The Shed may take part in local events, exhibitions, open days, or collaborative projects with other community groups. These activities strengthen local ties and promote inclusion.
-
Skill Sharing and Mentoring
Men sharing skills, experience, and practical knowledge with one another in an informal and supportive setting. Learning happens naturally, without pressure or formal teaching.
-
Health and Wellbeing Activities
Occasional talks, workshops, or group activities focused on physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. These are delivered in a relaxed, non-clinical way that feels accessible and respectful.
-
Repair and Upcycling Projects
Fixing, restoring, or repurposing items that would otherwise be discarded. These projects promote sustainability, problem-solving, and a strong sense of usefulness.
Who Can Join?
The NICHE Men’s Shed is open to adult men from the local community. You do not need specific skills, tools, or experience. Whether you want to be active, creative, social, or simply curious – there is a place for you.
Every man participates in his own way.
